Health, Education, Gaelscoil Fionnbarra

Issued : Friday 15 May, 2009

EDUCATION:

GAELSCOIL BHARRA, CABRA

Thirteen years after it was founded in 1996, Gaelscoil Bharra, is still waiting for a permanent school.  The Celtic Tiger came and went without benefiting the children of Cabra who are still being taught in the most awful, dilapidated, smelly, leaking prefabs.  The school is currently in temporary accommodation on lands leased by Dublin City Council to Naomh Fionbarra GAA club. DCC has asked Naomh Fionbarra’s to surrender some of the leased land back to DCC in order that it can sell on the lands to the Department of Education for construction of the new Gaelscoil. I will continue to work with Joe Costello TD to ensure that Gaelscoil Bharra is built without delay.

Back to Work Education Allowance:

This scheme allows someone to go back to education and keep all or part of their social welfare payment for a number of years. If you are unemployed for longer than three months you can avail of this scheme to take up a second level course. If you have been unemployed for nine months or more, you can, in some cases qualify to take up a third level course leading to a diploma or a degree.

MATER HOSPITAL, A & E

The A & E department of the Mater Hospital is not providing the quality of service that patients deserve.  It is overcrowded and badly managed.  Patients spending long periods sitting on chairs or lying on trolleys waiting for transfer to a ward.  The Labour Party under Joe Costello TD has campaigned on the issue for nearly six years.  I will continue to campaign with Joe until this unacceptable treatment of the old, sick and the vulnerable is ended.
