Hi and welcome to my web page

My name is Bernie O’Halloran and I am a Councillor in Arklow Town, having been elected for the first time in 2004. I then had the honour of being elected as the Towns First Lady Mayor. I thankfully, was re-elected in June of 2009.


I have has been living in Arklow for the past 13 years, which is the home town of my relatives and where I spent many childhood summers. I am a single parent with three children, Luke (22), Drew (20) and Erin (18) and work for Rehabcare as part of their Care-Link Services.
I am also a qualified nurse.
I' have recently completed a Diploma in Youth & Community Work.

I entered politics because of my commitment to community activism and the fact that I firmly believe that we are all entitled to a fair and equal society. During my time as a Councillor I've gained valuable experience and have worked tirelessly for the people of the town and surrounding areas, showing sincerity, integrity and fairness at all times.

Amongst many of the issues that I feel passionately about and committed to working towards are, sustainable employment for a vibrant local economy in South Wicklow: the enhancement of all our health care facilities and services; support and facilities for young people and adequate social and affordable housing.

I am also committed to lobbying against all the atrocious cuts and charges that have been implemented as a result of inappropriate squandering of Government funds.

There are many issues that effect us here in Co. Wicklow and many issues that affect us as people and our daily lives.

We are all entitled, I believe to a basic standard of living, basic as in:-

The right to be housed
The right to work, or be trained in order to work
The right to a decent Education both for us and our children
The right to a fair health care system
The right to a decent social welfare system

I firmly believe All Government agencies and departments should be totally transparent and accountable.

Member of Co. Wicklow VEC and serve on various committee's within
Community Rep and Vice Chairperson on the Board of Management of Arklow Community College
Arklow Town Council Representative on the Housing Strategic Policy Committee with Wicklow County Council
Member Joint Policing Committee
Arklow's Rep to the IPB

I set up and coordinated the Home Care Service for the County Wicklow Alzheimer Society
I have also worked tirelessly on youth issues, including the establishment of a Youth Forum, from which a committee evolved that organised regular youth discos and trips.
