Junior Minister appointments announced

Speaking after her appointment today as Super Junior Minister Jan O'Sullivan said her priorities in the post are addressing homelessness and alleviating the stresses of families who are struggling to meet their mortgages.
Minister Jan O'Sullivan was appointed from her previous position of Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs with responsibility for Trade and Employment to Minister of State at the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government with special responsibility for Housing and Planning. Minister O'Sullivan's appointment means she will now be a member of Cabinet.
"The Government has made significant progress in getting the country back on the road to economic recovery. I look forward to working with my Cabinet colleagues in continuing that work," Minister O'Sullivan said.

Ó Ríordáin awarded Diverse Ireland Award

Yesterday Deputy Aodhan Ó Ríordáin was awarded a Diverse Ireland award from the Integration Centre. The awards were established to create to raise awareness of the positive advancements around immigrant integration in Ireland.
"The Integration Centre carries out tremendous work in the field of integration and inclusion for people from immigrant background and I am extremely proud to be associated with their organisation.
"Nobody in this country should ever have to apologise for who they are and I believe it is incumbent on all of us, as citizens of this republic, to stand up and challenge discrimination and injustice when we encounter it."

Minister Kelly launches integrated transport ticket for Dublin

Minister Alan Kelly has today launched the Leap card, a new integrated transport ticket for Dublin which allows commuters in the greater Dublin area to switch between bus, Luas, Dart and rail services with one ticket.
Minister Kelly said: "The Leap car will be among the cheapest ways to get around Dublin. It will make using public transport more attractive and will make it easier to get around the city. Our testing phase produced over 15,000 successful journeys. This represents progress for commuters and it has been one of my biggest priorities since taking office. A commitment was made in the Programme for Government to advance this project as quickly as possible and I'm delighted to have delivered on this."

With clear and determined leadership this nation will prosper again - Howlin

"There is no hiding from the fact that, as a Government, we must take very difficult decisions. But these decisions that we must take in the long-term and strategic interests of the State and its citizens," the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Brendan Howlin said yesterday when announcing the Budget 2012 expenditure estimates.
"We are at the start of a reform process. Today and tomorrow are significant days in that process but our work is ongoing. Our resources are more scarce but we do have some choices. And this Government is choosing to divert those scarce resources - albeit not at levels we previously enjoyed.

Labour Equality Conference

Labour Equality held its biannual national conference on Saturday last in the Mansion House in Dublin. The conference was divided into two parts, with the morning taking the form of addresses by a panel of speakers, followed by a questions and answers session, whilst the afternoon was the formal affairs of setting the policy agenda of Labour Equality and electing a new committee to take the section forward.
