Publication of Committee's Report into Severe Weather Events is Welcome

Labour Party County Councillor for the Skibbereen Electoral Area, Brendan Leahy, has welcomed the publication of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Environment’s report into the management of flooding and the prolonged snowfall last winter.
Cllr. Leahy said, “It has taken some months for this report to be compiled and I welcome the fact that it has been published today.
“This report will allow us to find out how things went so badly wrong last winter and help us to plan for such eventualities in the future. This Committee went to great lengths in compiling this report, visiting many of the effected areas including Skibbereen.
“I think the Committee members have done a great service by publishing this report. It is now up to Minister John Gormley to take the recommendations of the report on board and to work from there. I call on the Minsiter and the Office of Public Works to expedite the funding for the badly needed flood relief works across West Cork.”
