Bond successfully moves motion to create Smart Phone application for South Dublin

Newly co-opted Councillor for Tallaght South Chris Bond has expressed his delight at the passage of a motion calling on South Dublin County Council to develop a smart phone application. The Motion seconded by Rathfarnham County Councillor Paddy Cosgrave, passed unanimously at the monthly meeting of South Dublin County Council on Monday the 11th of April.



An iPhone Application has been recently developed for South Dublin County Tourism company. The iGuide is a free mobile application aimed at everyone who visits, works or lives in the County. The Application will make connections with South Dublin news items and a wide range of upcoming events including concerts, shows, comedy gigs, art exhibitions, festivals, soccer, archery, snooker, darts, live music, traditional Irish nights, charity walks, Golf Classics.

All South Dublin County Council departments, facilities, amenities, parks, community groups, libraries, heritage sites, events, festivals etc will have access to upload content on the Application. SDCC will be working with South Dublin Tourism to progress this. An android version will be available in the second half of this year.

The application will become known as iGuide South Dublin and is cross linked with iGuide Dublin, iGuide Belfast and iGuide UK, this will help to raise the profile of South Dublin County, its amenities and the business community.

Chris Bond- who replaces newly elected TD Eamonn Maloney on South Dublin County Council said that ''The use of smart phones is growing rapidly, this new application will be free to access and easy to use, it will ensure that Council Matters and information on events throughout the County will be accessible to South Dublin Citzens at a fingertip''.

''The application will also encourage those with a disposable income to spend more on leisure activities in the county keeping money in circulation in the local economy which in turn will boost job creation''
