Session 2 : Electoral Strategy :
Motion 57. ) Conference:recognises that this may be the last Labour Party Conference before the next General Election;deplores the failure of this arrogant, incompetent and wasteful PD/FF Government to use the unprecedented resources generated by more than a decade of economic growth to build a fair and cohesive society in Ireland;acknowledges that only a different and better Government can realise the Fair Society;welcomes and endorses the Party Leader’s determination to see the Government parties removed from office and to offer the electorate an alternative Government that would have as its driving force Labour’s vision of a Fair Society;affirms that Labour will therefore campaign to maximise electoral support for our distinctive policy platform, with a view to achieving maximum Labour Party input into a progressive policy programme for a reforming Government;authorises the Party Leader to take such steps as are necessary to achieve these objectives, including negotiating with the genuinely democratic parties of opposition to agree:(i)a broad common policy agenda consistent with the principles of the Fair Society, and which would provide a framework for any subsequent Programme for Government;(ii)voting transfer agreements, andconfirms that any proposal for Labour’s entry into government, and any detailed Programme for Government negotiated after the election, would then require to be approved by a Special Delegate Conference, in accordance with the Party Constitution.
