IBAL litter league holds no credibility says Clonmel Mayor.

Issued : Monday 9 January, 2012

Mayor of Clonmel Cllr. Darren Ryan has accused the Irish Business Against Litter league of having no credibility.

In the latest results, Clonmel has now been branded as 'Clean to European Norms' being placed number 28 on the litter league.

Mayor Ryan has criticised IBAL for the manner in which Clonmel has been treated. According to Mayor Ryan, Clonmel has not once changed its regime in relation to dealing with its environment section and the maintenance of the town, and yet in the last 3 leagues that IBAL have published, we have seen the town go from number 6 to 47 and now back to 28. In contrast if we look at the towns progress in the Tidy Towns competition, we have seen the town progress every single year with a gold medal being our latest achievement.”

IBAL were invited to attend the December meeting of Clonmel Borough Council to justify why the town, in the last league fell back to 47th place, according to Mayor Ryan at the meeting the representative failed to provide any reasonable or justifiable explanation for the substantial drop in the league.

With Clonmel having the honour of being selected as the entrant into the Entante Florale competition, Mayor Ryan has said that we need to focus on what Tidy Towns are recommending to us rather than IBAL.

Mayor Ryan wishes to thank the staff of Clonmel Borough Council for their ongoing work on a daily basis to enhance our town and also the wonderful Tidy Towns Committee that we have who work tirelessly for the enhancement of the town.
