- Co-opted to Wexford Corporation in 1997 as a member of Democratic Left, following the tragic death of Senator Michael Enright.RIP
- Following the merger of Democratic Left and the Labour Party, he successfully contested the local elections in 1999.
- In June 2004 and June 2009 he was re-elected to the Wexford Borough Council
- Elected Mayor, June 2011
