In view of widespread concern, of many people including parents regarding the unrestricted and unlicensed business known as ‘Head Shops'. Where various mood altering substances and paraphernalia such as bongs are freely on sale, Some of these substances have recently given rise to major health concerns. This Borough Council calls on the relevant Minister to examine this particular trade.

A 'head shop' which set up earlier this year in Wygram came in for strong criticism at a Council meeting on Monday night.

In a debate sparked by drug service worker, Cllr. David Hynes (Lab), councillors agreed that drugs or sex shops are not the type of retail outlet that Wexford needs or wants.

They also asked Council management to consider making a provision in the development plan to outlaw them.

Cllr. Hynes said he tabled the motion after receiving numerous calls from people, especially parents, alarmed that these businesses are able to open at a time when the illegal drug trade is under the spotlight as never before.
