In the Local Elections of June 2009 Denis Topped the poll in the Ballybrack Electoral Ward, with the support of residents in Shankill, Ballybrack, loughlinstown,Rathmichael, Old Connaught, Killiney and Cabinteely.

Denis was first elected to the Council in 1991 and has been elected at each local election since. A dedicated and committed Councillor he has held many positions in that time, most notably his unanimous election as Cathaoirleach of Dunlaoghaire Rathdown Co Co in 2007--2008, Leas Cathaoirleach in 2006 and a previous Chairman of the Housing Strategic Policy Committee.

He currently holds the Chair of the Envirnoment, Culture, Community Development Strategic Policy Committee,Chair of the Local Traveller Consultative Committee,Deputy Group Leader of the Labour Group on the Council. Is a member of the Housing Strategic Policy Committee,member of the H.S.E. Health Forum Dublin--Mid Leinster,member of the Association Of City And County Councils (which represents Councillors Interests), member of the board of Dunlaoghaire Leisure Company ( a Council subsidary looking ater the Councils leisure complexes), member of the Organisation, Procedure and Protocol Committee of the Council.

Denis believes strongly in local Government as a vechicle to deliver quality services to its citizens. He works to the criteria that every problem no matter how complicated has a solution.
