Cllr Eamon Tuffy

Cllr. Eamon Tuffy has a long record of political and community activism in Lucan and the west Dublin area. A native of Mayo, Eamon has lived in Lucan since he and his family returned from England in 1970.
As a longtime socialist and Labour activist, Eamon worked for many years with Councillor Michael Gannon, serving as his election agent in several elections. He has also been election agent for Deputy Joan Burton, and his daughter Joanna Tuffy.
Eamon was co-opted to South Dublin County Council in 2003, re-elected to the Council for the Lucan Electoral Area in 2004 and in 2009 with his colleague, Cllr Caitriona Jones. He is Chairperson of the Planning and Economic Development SPC of the Council, and the South Dublin County Development Board, and leads the Labour Group of 9 councillors. Eamon is a Board member of the CPLN Area Partnership.
He was prominently involved with various organisations in opposing bad planning in Lucan over two decades. He was a founding member of Lucan Planning Council and Lucan Citizens Advice Bureau. In addition Eamon is a former Chair of Lucan Community Council and was heavily involved in the campaign for Lucan's first community centre and other campaigns for vital facilities for Lucan.
A prominent educationalist, he has served as a member of the Higher Education Authority, Chairperson of the Higher Education Equality Unit, and was a VEC member from 2005 to 2009. He is a member of the Boards of Management of Palmerstown Community School, Lucan Community College, Adamstown Community College and Colaiste cois Life, and is a VEC nominee on the Governing Body of IT Tallaght. Prior to becoming a full time councillor Eamon worked as Head of Development in the Institute of Technology Tallaght. He previously worked as a physics lecturer in the Dublin Institute of Technology. He is a member of the Teachers Union of Ireland retired teachers section.
