Údarás na Gaeltachta, the state's economic and cultural development agency for Irish speaking areas, has a Board of 20 members - 3 (including the Chair) nominated by the Government and another 17 directly elected by Gaeltacht communities in 7 counties. Fiachra Ó Céilleachair is the elected member for the Ring (An Rinn) and Old Parish (An Seana Phobal) Gaeltacht constituency.

Fiachra O Céilleachair served as a member of Waterford County Council from 1997 to 2004 and on Dungarvan Town Council (Mayor 2005/06) until he retired at the 2009 local elections. He also served for six years during that time as part of the Labour Party's National Executive. Fiachra confirmed last year that he will also be stepping down at the next Údarás na Gaeltachta elections.
