Bandon Flood Update
Issued : Wednesday 1 September, 2010
At a Special meeting of Bandon Town Council last night, Cork County Council committed to cleaning the Bandon River and getting rid of large amounts of sand and silt, which have been deposited above the water level. The Council will also write to Inland Fisheries Ireland and the OPW to request permission to do further cleaning along the river bed.
Cllr. Buckley said, "Last nights Special Council meeting was crucial. Town Councillors received a commitment from Cork County Council that multiple works would be completed. If we did not call this Special Council meeting it would have been too late to do such works after our ordinary meeting, which will be held in mid-September.
“Towns people do not expect miracles, but want to see Cork County Council do all they can to alleviate the strong fears that the town will flood again this winter."
