Cllr Gillian Wharton Slattery
Hi, thanks for taking the time to visit my website.
I work locally as a legal secretary in Tralee and live with my husband Brian Slattery with our two sons, Damien and Colin.
I was elected to Tralee Town Council in June 2009. I was thrilled to be elected on my first attempt and am the first member of my family to venture into politics. A big thank you to those who voted for me in June '09. Following the election of Arthur Spring to the Dáil in March 2011, I was co-opted to Kerry County Council.
My Key Priorities are to:
- Make the Council more accessible to local people and keep them informed where possible of the issues we are dealing with.
- To work closely with local women’s groups.
- To work with the business fraternity within our town to improve its image, sustain employment and encourage new businesses – this can only be done by working together.
- To work with the many local voluntary groups we have and assist them in going forward.
- Improve facilities for young people, sporting facilities, music events and encourage them to get more active in a positive way in their local area/community and to have pride in their areas.
- Continue working for a fairer health care service/breast check services and care for our elderly.
- Work tirelessly with local council in reducing the ever growing housing list.
My intention is to work extremely hard for the all those in my community and listen to their concerns and worries and make representation on their behalf where possible and to the best of my ability. I am delighted to have been elected and do not take the position lightly – I will work hard, I will be fair and honest in my role as a councillor and will respect all those who have difficulties in these very trying times. Please feel free to contact me at any time with any concerns or issues you may have.
