CHERNOBYL 25YRS LATER
Posted on April 27, 2011
Chernobyl Children's International launched their photographic exhibition at Kerry County Library Exhibition Hall last night (26th April 2011) It was officially opened by Deputy Arthur J Spring and I was also in attendance. The photographic images taken by award winning photo journalists gave a stark reminder that Chernobyl is not nor ever will go away. The work carried out by the volunteers over the past 25 years has been extraordinary and I admire their determination and staying power, it is not an easy task to watch such suffering on a daily basis. The exhibition will be on display to the public from April 27th to Friday 13th May and is worth going along to see it - least any of you have forgotten. Mayor of Tralee
Posted on April 27, 2011
I took over the reign as Mayor of Tralee in March 2011 following Arthur J. Spring's election to the Dail.
It is a huge honour and I am delighted to hold this office. It will be a short reign however, finishing in June
but to date I am really enjoying it and doing a lot of very valuable work as Mayor. So many thanks to all
who are supporting me in this role. Cllr Terry O'Brien is deputy for the remaining period.

There is no doubt but Labour's policies and the hard work of all concerned for the party throughout the country is bearing fruit. People are disgusted, angry and saddened by the way Fianna Fail has ruled over this country for more than a decade. Fine Gael, though Enda Kenny has managed to hold on to his leadership, are in disarray.

German Ambassador visits Tralee
Posted on June 04, 2010
Our Mayor, Cllr Terry O'Brien welcomed the German Ambassador Busso von Alvensleben and his wife to the Tralee Town Chamber last thursday. With some councillors, myself included in attendance to welcome them. A presentation of a drawing of Blennerville Windmill was presented to the Ambassador and he in turn presented Tralee Town Council with a book. It was a very informal meeting as the Von Alvenslebens were just paying a courtesy call as they were on route to other towns in the County.

The Late Cllr Maeve Spring-Sweeney
Posted on May 21, 2010
The County of Kerry, especially North Kerry and the town of Tralee lost one of our greats this week with the untimely death of former Cllr Maeve Spring. Her death at such a young age sent shock waves through many of our communities. She was without question an extraordinary woman. She worked tirelessly for the people of North Kerry and beyond. Her unwavering commitment to the Labour Party was never in any doubt. Everything she did was for the good of the people and her beloved Labour Party. When I joined the Labour Party first, Maeve proudly told me that I could not have joined a better party, she told me that the party looks after their own, it works for the people and only for the people, and there is no hidden agenda. She was right. And she did work for the people; she worked hard for the people. There was no class distinction in Maeve Spring’s books, if you needed help; you got it, simple as. She particularly looked after the most vulnerable in our community and listened to them, she gave them time, she understood them and they her. She was their friend and they knew that. People off loaded all their problems to Maeve and she carried their burdens as if they were her own. She never let people down, not if she could help it anyway. She knocked on every door until she got the answers she wanted. While Maeve never became a TD, she was one in theory to the people of North Kerry; she was one in all but name.
