2011 Tidy Town Competition

Issued : Wednesday 27 April, 2011

PRESS RELEASE

As Tidy Towns fever hits towns and villages all over Ireland, Tralee Tidy Town Committee is calling on everyone to come out to do their bit.

While in essence the aim of the Tidy Town Committee is to win a Gold Medal or at the very least retain our Silver it is important that we generate public interest in our communities and our environment.  It is not all about picking up litter, its fundamentally about the over all “look” of the town, therefore it is pivotal to the overall result of the competition that public spaces/parks, housing estates and buildings are also well planned out and well maintained.   It is an opportunity to consolidate community efforts and demonstrate your community spirit.  Tidy Town is about improving our standards year on year.

Entries for the tidy estates will be taken shortly so start getting yours in ship shape condition now. Should further details or assistance be required please contact us at the numbers listed below.  Also flower baskets and window boxes will be available to the businesses at a reasonable rate and we will be taking orders from you soon.

We thank our main sponsors, Supervalu for once again rowing in behind the competition as they lead the way in supporting local jobs and local initiatives, without their continued support it would not be possible.  We thank Tralee Town Council, Towards a Better Tralee, FAS  Businesses and Residents Associations and all voluntary and community  groups who lend us their invaluable help each year.

It would be an idea to take a walk around town and try to see it through the eyes of a visitor, if you don’t like what you see then stand up and be counted, do something about it! 2011 is European year of Volunteerism, now you have the chance to be part of that so grab your brushes and help us clean up the town and reach our GOLD! Meet new friends, get active and do your bit for your town.

We meet three times a week Volunteers are welcome, needed and appreciated.

High Visibility Vests, gloves, bags will be provided to you.

The Tidy Tralee Together Committee meets the second Tuesday of each month at 8pm at the Tralee Town Council Chamber and you are welcome to come along and give your contribution.
