Political Career:

  • Contested local elections in June 2004. He lost the last seat in the contest by five votes after a recount.
  • November, 2005 he was unanimously selected by Labour members in Mayo to contest the General Election.
  • May 2007, contested General Election.
  • Re-elected to Castlebar Town Council, June 2009

Occupation:

  • Primary School Teacher since 1988. He has taught in Dublin, Wicklow and is currently working in St. Patrick's B.N.S., Castlebar since 1998.

Memberships:

  • Harry is currently a member of the Mayo V.E.C.

Other Interests:

  • As the P.R.O. of the Labour Party in Mayo, Harry has highlighted the gaps in infrastructure in Mayo in comparison to what prevails on the East coast. He has also been a vocal supporter of the Rossport 5 in their struggle to protect their community, the privatisation of the waste collection service, the crisis in our A/E Dept., and the failure to bring the Breastcheck screening to Mayo. In addition, he recently revealed that the level of Gardaí in Mayo has fallen in the last 8 years, adding to the fears of people living in rural areas. Finally, Harry has concerns over the inability of the IDA to attract industry to Co. Mayo. He is adamant that the monies provided for BMW regions must be spent to enhance the road, rail and power infrastructure so that knowledge based industry can locate in the county.
