Leave Child Benefit alone demands Cllr. Henry Upton

Cllr Henry Upton has called on the government to keep child benefit
as it is in the up-coming budget. "Any reduction in the amount will
hit lower income families the hardest. The budget is going to be the
harshest one for many years and while all sections of society will
be hit, the Labour Party must ensure that those who earn the least are
protected the most.”
Upton has called on Labour Party backbenchers to keep their
pre-election promise to protect child benefit. "It would be a huge
u-turn for the party to introduce a cut of 10 euro when only nine
months ago they had a poster campaign saying that child benefit would
be safe" he said
Finally Cllr Upton said that politicians are held in low enough esteem
at the moment and we do not need the Labour Party to add to this by
changing their
minds on an issue that elected many of our TDs in the February election.
