INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS

The Labour Party is a democratic socialist party and, through its membership of the Party of European Socialists and Socialist International, is part of the international socialist movement working for equality and to empower citizens, consumers and workers in a world increasingly dominated by big business, greed and selfishness.

The International Affairs Sub-Committee is a standing sub-committee of the National Executive Committee of the Labour Party. It is responsible for developing policies for the approval of the Party in relation to international affairs, including in particular policies relating to the State's participation in the United Nations, the Council of Europe and the European Union. The Sub-Committee is also responsible for maintaining fraternal relations with international organisations to which the Party is affiliated.

The International Affairs sub-committee has the following working groups:

  • European Union Affairs
  • Middle East
  • Latin America
  • Human Rights
  • Global Governance including Trade/Aid/Debt
