Expansion of Dermatology Services needed urgently

Cllr Jack Walsh, The Labour Party has called on the Minister for Health & Children, Mary Harney T.D. to ensure that resources are made available to the Waterford Regional Hospital to expand the Dermatology Services immediately to employ two additional Consultant Dermatologist and a Clinical Nurse Specialist. He further requests that in the medium term that the resources are made available to fully implement the Comhairle na hOspidéal recommendations of 2003. This would include a further Consultant Dermatologists, a third Clinical Nurse Specialist and appropriate clerical support.
Cllr. Walsh states that he has been informed by Richie Dooley, Hospital Network Manager, Southeast Eastern Hospital Group that a comprehensive case has been made regionally for the expansion of the service. “I am further advised that the plans are in place but are dependant on the availability of resources” Cllr. Walsh added.
“I have been in touch again with the Ministers Office, making the case for additional resources for Waterford Regional Hospital to implement the recommendations that were made over 6 years ago” Cllr. Walsh stated. “Progress has been make in the other regions in the country, why should we be so far behind, it is just not good enough“ Cllr. Jack Walsh concluded.
