Issued : Saturday 15 October, 2011
With just a week and a half left to polling day in the Presidential election the Labour Party in Waterford City is reporting strong support for Michael D. Higgins. Cllr Jack Walsh said that feedback from people living in Waterford East (Ward 2) has indicated that Michael D. is very popular and highly respected. “His high recognition factor across all age groups is a real plus” Cllr. Walsh added.
“The high recognition factor first came to notice when he visited the City for the Tall Ships Race in early July and continued when he was here again for the SPRAOI Festival Weekend” Cllr. Jack Walsh observed. Recent visits to Dungarvan and West Waterford by Michael D. have received the same positive response.
“The manner in which Michael D. has conducted his campaign in the media has reinforced the belief that he is ideally suited for the job. He has the knowledge, the charisma and the professionalism to do us proud.” Cllr. Jack Walsh stated.
What is also coming across very strongly is that people believe in his ability to exercise his judgement appropriately given the role and responsibility of the Office of President. People are confident that he will act with great dignity and confidence. “He will be inspirational” according to Cllr. Walsh.
Transfers will be very important in determining the outcome of the election and the Michael D. Higgins campaign is asking supporters of other candidates to give Michael D. their highest possible preference vote.
