Town Water Supply and Ardreigh Road

I placed two motions before the February Council Meeting that was held on Wednesday Feb. 17th. 2010. They were

That Athy Town Council provide an update for members in relation to the extra provision of water for town, ie. the line to the Monasterevin well fields and the barrow Abstraction and if there is any update on the pipe work in the town as discussed at the last meeting.

That Athy Town Council carry out remedial works on the Ardreigh Road, the part under the control of the town local authority and that an additional public light be considered in the interest of public safety

On the first motion I recieved a reply that work will commence within the next 3 months. Hopefully this will mean that the water shortages of the last number of months will be consigned to history. It is an unacceptable situation whereby our supply from the Dublin authority can be turned off at very short notice. The Monasterevin supply and Barrow Abstraction will leave us in a much more secure situation regarding our water needs.

On the second motion the Copuncil Officals have said that there are plans in place to improve the Road Surface. The county Council are to undertake remedial works on the Ardreigh Road from the Castledermot Road junction to the the Railway Bridge later in the year. It is envisaged that the Athy Town Council will then contin the upgrade from the bridge to the Carlow Road. Unfortunately all such works are dependant on adequate funding being available.
