O’SULLIVAN WELCOMES RETURN OF RESPITE SERVICE
Issued : Sunday 25 July, 2010
Limerick City Labour T.D. & party spokesperson on Health Jan O’Sullivan has this morning welcomed the confirmation that the Brothers of Charity will be restarting the provision of a respite service on the 16th August next.
The closure of the respite house on the 14th June last has caused immense hardship and upset for the 63 families directly availing of the respite service. I have raised the issue of inadequate funding by the HSE in the Dail concerning the provision of frontline services on many occasions and the apparent lack of concern or understanding by Government ministers of the pain and hardship that affected families are enduring is extremely disappointing.
While today’s announcement is a morale boost for those families and in particular those elderly parents of children with intellectual disabilities the ongoing issue of budgetary cuts and the impacts these cuts have on those vulnerable members of our society must be opposed.
