Cllr Jan Rotte
I am originally from The Netherlands and have lived in Lismore since 1997 with my wife Catherine, a public health nurse and native of Lismore and my 3 sons, Shayne, Martin and William and daughter Maeve.
Before settling in this area, I spent 25 years in International Development Aid programmes in Africa and Asia in positions ranging from volunteer to Country Director. For 10 of these 25 years, I was employed by the widely respected Irish NGO Concern, in Bangla Desh, Tanzania and Laos. Previous to that, I lived in the Philippines where I worked with the Dutch volunteer service. This humanitarian work has left a lasting impression strongly influencing my life. I firmly believe in the principles of justice and equality and approach all aspects of my life with a social conscience.
Since coming to Lismore, I have become actively involved in the community here through membership of Mochuda Development Company Ltd., the Immrama Festival of Travel Writing and the Credit Union.
Though I have only lived here since 1997, I very much regard Lismore as my home and one which I hope will benefit from my contributing fully in the work and debates of the Town Council on behalf of the Labour party.
