Department approves new schools for Navan
Issued : Thursday 27 January, 2011
At a meeting in Tullamore last week with the Department of Education and skills, the move was taken to C.P.O. lands in Johnstown Navan for the provision of primary school for St.Stephen's and St. Mary's special school and also a secondary school.
As principal of St.Stephen's and Meath County Councillor I was a member of the delegation. I am delighted at this announcement, one I have fought for since elected in 2009. The strategic plan the D.E.S. have now adopted is they intend to buy enough land in the Navan area for immediate needs and future educational needs of the children in Navan. I hope that the Dept. move on this new school without delay, thus creating many needed construction jobs for the people of Navan and beyond. The children of Johnstown deserve better. At present 600 of them are being educated in a dickensian building not fit for purpose. This new school offers them the opportunity to be educated in a modern facility that they deserve.
