Joanna Tuffy TD welcomes announcement of go ahead for Extension to Lucan Community College

I welcome the decision to permit the VEC to appoint a Design Team for the Extension to Lucan Community College. The fact that the Government has at last agreed to move the project on is a credit to the commitment to the project of the parents, Principal and staff and the Board of Management. When completed, the Extension Project will enable the enrolment of about 40 more 1st Year pupils than the 144 it can currently enrol. With over 240 applicants each year for Lucan CC, most applicants from south Lucan (the areas covered by Divine Mercy Parish), will still not be able to access a coeducational, multi-denomination College near their homes. What is now required is that the Government approve the start of the Lucan South Second Level School project on the site now approved for sale by the Council to the Department.
