Leadership _ take first step

The first step in this revival needs to be leadership. Politicians must step up and offer real leadership –leadership that is relevant to the lives of real people, leadership that is sensible and thought out. It seems that decision makers in this country are not effected by the consequences of their decisions.
A Minister on nearly two hundred thousand a year cannot know how the decisions he makes effects ordinary people. People who are struggling to pay the mortgage and bills, who has just lost their job or are worried about losing it, people who are about to emigrate and the parents they leave behind.

New politics - cliche or reality?

Today, more than ever, we need to find a new way of doing politics. It is clear that not only have people lost confidence in the present government, but in all politicians. Very few people feel a sense of ownership in their politics. We need a politics that addresses the instability that people feel in their lives, their worries and fears, the sense of having no control. We need a politics that people can have faith in. This new politics must start at the top but all politicians have a role to play.
