Cllr Ken Hickey

Living in Bagenalstown with his wife and young family, Ken first stood as a candidate for the local elections in 2009. Now unemployed, Ken readily understands the difficulties faced by families struggling to make ends meet in these difficult times.

Ken is no stranger locally to fundraising initiatives, having  previously taken  part in a  mammoth cycle around Ireland to raise funds for Irish Autism and Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children. More recently Ken (along with the help of his great committee ) planned and organised a sports-mad weekend, ‘The Power of Bagenalstown’ charity fest in aid of Irish Autism Action. This fundraising initiative has led to footballers such as John Aldridge, Jason McAteer, Mark Walters, Don Hutchison, Gary Gillespie, Tommy Boyd, Clayton Blackmore, Lee Martin, David May and Keith Gillespie togging out against some of Carlow’s finest footballers for the charity event.
