Kevin HumphreysKevin Humphreys TD

My name is Kevin Humphreys and I was first elected to the Dáil Éireann in the Dublin South East Constituency earlier this year.

Born and educated in Ringsend I now live in Sandymount with my wife Catherine.

Having grown up in the area I wanted to make a difference and help fight the issues facing Ireland and the people of Dublin South-East. I worked for many years on the ground in the constituency and as a member of the Labour party, including as campaign manager for Ruairi Quinn in the 1992 General Election, the so called “Spring Tide”.

In 1999 I was selected by the Labour party to contest the Local Election for the South East Inner City Ward. That year I was elected to Dublin City Council, I was elected again in 2004 and  2009. The number of people who trusted me to represent them increased in each election.

Since my election 12 years ago, I have worked continuously to improve the lives of the people living in Dublin City through a wide range of economic, housing, traffic management and environmental initiatives. In my time on Dublin City Council, as the leader of the Labour Party group, I have  worked on negotiating the yearly budget estimates; negotiated and implemented two development plans for the city; and implemented viable public transport initiatives – all while preserving crucial frontline services and continually working to create a better city for us all.

The above are some of the initiatives that I have promoted while working for Dublin City, but the current election is not just about the future of Dublin. It is about the future of each and every citizen of this country.

Unemployment is rampant in our country and action is required. On the Council I took actions to help get people back on their feet.  One of the policies which I proposed and successfully implemented in the Council, was an Apprentice Training Completion Scheme for young apprentices whose employers had gone out of business thus preventing them finishing their training. This scheme allowed apprentices to finish their training with Dublin City Council employees and gives them a chance of finding employment.  We must help and protect our youth!

With your support I will continue to work to roll out initiatives such as the above nationwide.

We must never forget that our country and our people are capable of standing up to any challenge. With strong, trustworthy people in place, implementing real, sensible, imaginative policies there is no obstacle that we cannot overcome. We can and we will get this country back on track and build a more equitable future for all of us. Never again will the few attempt to ruin this country for the many.

I promise you that I will work tirelessly to bring about change to this country. I will work to ensure that Ireland is a place that not only we are proud to call home but a place where we can afford to make a home for ourselves and our families.

Kind regards,

Kevin Humphreys
