Ordeal at Nenagh Track
Issued : Friday 20 February, 2009
I was deeply saddened to read an article in the January 17th issue of the Nenagh Guardian under the heading "Youngsters endure frightening ordeal at Nenagh Track". I am sure I speak for all the residents of Ballygraigue Estate and Nenagh when I say what happened is totally unacceptable. The people of Nenagh have always had a reputation of been a friendly and hospitable folk and the reputation of the town has been damaged by the behaviour of approxomatily 20 youths whom none , I may add, live in the Ballygraigue Estate.
This kind of anti-social behaviour must not be allowed go unpunished. The Gardi now have the benefit of ASBO to assist them in incidences of this nature and action needs to be taken to ensure that both visitors and residents of this town are protected from this type of behaviour.
It is regrettable that the Nenagh Olympic Athletic Club, which has been the source of so much pride to this town, now needs to consider new security measures to protect its members, guests and visitors, from the very people it has sought to serve during the years.
I hope that this matter will be investaged by the appropriate authorities and the correct course of action will be taken to stop this type of behaviour from occuring again.
