Leonard is a member of Ardee Town Council since 1999 having served as Chairman of the Local Authority on two occasions. Leonard was chairman of Ardee Host Town Special Olympics in 2003.

Leonard, formally a C.I.E. train driver for 25 years, now retired, plays an active roll in the local community.

Leonard joined the Labour Party in order that he could pursue meaningfully social policies which would lead to improved public services particularly in Health. Leonard’s ambition is to gain a seat for the Labour Party on Louth County Council at the forthcoming local elections. Having lived for many years at Dawson’s Demesne he now lives at No. 5 Chapel View, Louth Village Dundalk.

Political Life.

I was first elected as a Councillor to Ardee Town Council in June 1999, and am presently serving my third term of office on Ardee Town Council. From being first elected I have served as Chairman of the Local Authority on three occasions in the years 2001- 2002, 2004 and 2005.

Workforce and Voluntary Organisations Works.

I formally worked for C.I.E., and latterly for Inroad Eirann as a train driver for upwards of 25 years, and am now retired. However, I still play an active roll within the local communities in county. I am an elected member from the Louth Deanery to the Armagh Diocesan Council, and also an elected Member from the Armagh Diocesan Synod as a representative for the Church of Ireland, on the all Ireland Board of Social Responsibilities. I am presently appointed as the Rectors Church Warden for St. Mary’s Church of Ireland Ardee, and is also a member of the Select Vestry of the Ardee Union of Parishes. I also take an active roll in the local Educate Together, National School, Ardee, of which I am Chairman. It was in this school I was educated myself when it was formally run by the Church of Ireland Board of Education.

Special Olympics

During my Chairmanship of Ardee Town Council I was involved in the organisation of Ardee Host Town Special Olympics in 2003. A keen follower of both Gaelic athletic and Association football I have many other interests in the area of athletics’ such as cross-country competition etc.

Ambitions

My ambition is to gain a County Council seat for the Labour Party for the Mid Louth area, at any future Louth County Council local elections I was born and reared in the town of Ardee and have resided with my parents at Dawson’s, Demesne, Ardee, until my marriage to my wife Margaret, when we later we move to 5, Chapel View, Louth Village Dundalk.

Family Background.

Like my forefathers I descend from an old railway family having connections in Scotland, Donegal, Dundalk, Inniskeen, and Ardee. Both my father and uncle were employed at Ardee Railway Station for many years, the Hatrick family originated in Scotland and moved to St. Johnston in Donegal during the commencement of building of the railways in Ireland.
