This week Deputy Liz McManus travelled to Belfast with Labour Leader Eamon Gilmore TD to meet the First Minister Peter Robinson and Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness at Stormont on a fact finding mission.
"Following on our meetings it is clear that more work needs to be done to resolve the issues relating to the devolution of policing powers to Northern Ireland", said Deputy Liz McManus. "On this island we face many challenges in this economic recession and we need to work together to find a way forward.
"In Northern Ireland great progress has been made but there is still the ongoing threat of dissident paramilitaries and of community sectarianism. The devolution of policing to Northern Ireland would be another step forward in the Peace Process and I urge all parties to work together to achieve this goal", concluded Deputy McManus.
