Mae SextonCllr Mae Sexton

Mae Sexton is one of the most respected and admired public representatives in County Longford. She has been involved in local politics since 1991 and has had a long and impressive track record as a campaigner on a range of community issues in Longford. She was an effective and energetic representative for the county in the Dail between 2002 and 2007, having been successful in delivering local facilities and inward industrial investment for the county

While Longford is not a county where Labour has traditionally been strong, we have in the past had notable Labour elected representatives such as the late Michael Shedwell in the 1960s and 1970s and Martin Timlin in the 40s and 50s.

Commenting on her recent membership of the Labour Party she said "I am proud of what I have achieved in the past for the people of Longford and I have the utmost confidence that Eamon Gilmore can achieve the goals set out at this year's conference. I want to be part of Eamon Gilmore's team to ensure Longford has the best representation possible, something I believe I have proved myself to be in the past.

His courage in saying what needs to be said in a clear and determined way, gives me a sense of hope and the prospect of the change necessary to restore the confidence of the people of Ireland who are crying out for leadership, fairness, transparency and direction from the political system.

I have been very impressed with the leadership that Eamon Gilmore has shown. He has struck a common chord with people all over the country. He articulates their concerns and gives people a sense of hope."
