Cllr. Maria Parodi raises need for more adapted housing units for people with disabilities

Issued : Wednesday 15 June, 2011

At the Dublin City Council Southeast Area Committee Meeting on Monday 13th June, Cllr. Parodi put forward the following motion:

That this committee urges the Manager to increase the number of adapted housing units for people with disabilities across the Southeast area and the rest of the city.

Speaking on the motion Cllr. Parodi said ‘Over the course of the last two years, I have realised there is a lack of adapted units for people with disabilities in our housing stock in the Southeast area. This is an extremely important issue as I strongly believe Dublin city council has a responsibility to provide suitable accommodation for people with disabilities that are on our housing lists. If people are eligible for social housing and meet all the criteria then they shouldn’t have to wait due to the fact that there is a shortage of adapted housing units available.’

Cllr. Parodi called on Dublin City Council ‘to ensure that everything that can be done is done urgently, to convert a percentage of the current voids in the Southeast area that are on ground floor in order to cater for people with disabilities.’

Cllr. Parodi’s motion was unanimously agreed by the committee.
