Ringsend Community Garden Officially Opened by Cllr. Maria Parodi

Issued : Wednesday 10 August, 2011

This afternoon Cllr. Maria Parodi expressed that she was delighted to be officially opening the Ringsend Community Garden.

At the official opening in Ringsend today Maria said “when you look at how Ringsend Park has been transformed over the past number of years it has become a place that is buzzing with activity every day and night of the week. From the playgrounds, to the tennis and basketball courts, to the pitches and now the community garden, there is something for everyone. We can all be extremely proud of our local park.”

Maria added that “the Ringsend Community Garden began as a pilot project to provide a space in the local area where people could grow and cultivate vegetables and plants and it has gone from strength to strength. Every time I pass by I can see each of the allotments really coming along and developing. This is why it is great to be able to come together today as a community to officially open this community garden, which is such a positive initiative for our area, one that has been embraced by the local community.”

Cllr. Maria Parodi also recognised and acknowledged members of the community and Dublin City Council staff who provided continual support and worked diligently to ensure that these allotments came to fruition. Maria added that “the measure of success for any community initiative boils down to the people who are involved. So I would like to congratulate and thank everyone that has an allotment who gives their time and commitment every day to help make Ringsend Park a thriving part of our local area.”

Lastly, Cllr. Maria Parodi declared the Ringsend Community Garden officially open and stated that this is “an initiative that hopefully continues to grow and spread citywide. The Ringsend Community Garden has been such a tremendous success and I hope that the community can continue to enjoy it for years to come.”
