Marie Corr


Marie was elected to South Dublin County Council in 2004 and again in 2009 in the Tallaght South Ward. Originally from Greenhills Marie has lived in Mountain View, Tallaght for the past 15 years with her husband Val and two young children. Tallaght South ward stretches from Firhouse to Citywest taking in the neighbourhoods of Killinarden and Jobstown. The Labour Party is once again the largest political grouping on South Dublin County Council for a second term holding 9 seats since the 2009 Local Elections. Marie currently holds the positions of Chair of the Tallaght Area Committee and also Chair of the Arts, Culture, Education and Gaeilge SPC and has previously been Chair of the Housing and Social SPC for 4 years. Marie is a former Mayor of South Dublin County Council - the first woman from Tallaght to hold this position since the formation of the Council in 1994.

In addition to her usual council responsibilities Marie is a also a member of the Corporate Policy Group of six Councillors and senior Council management since elected in 2004. She has also been a member of the Environment SPC, the Joint Policing Committee and Local Traveller Accommodation Consultative Committee and is the Councillor representative on the West Tallaght RAPID AIT. She is currently a member of the Economic Development and Planning SPC and sub-groups of this SPC focussing on the massive unemployment issues in the Tallaght area - particularly in the RAPID areas of Tallaght which have consistent unemployment comparable with recession figures on an ongoing basis even during the Celtic Tiger. Marie is also a member of the County Development Board.

Marie has a track record as a locally-based community activist her priorities are:

  • Garda Substation locally and better policing in the RAPID areas of Tallaght
  • Community consultation on all Council plans
