“The recent inclement weather is having a devastating effect on the road network across North East Kilkenny” says Labour Cllr. Maurice Shortall. “I have consistently said unless drainage comes before re-surfacing it’s a complete waste of resources especially in the present economic climate. We may get used to and prepare for deluges in a pro-active approach.” Cllr. Shortall recently visited Byrnesgrove where the Alley Road as it known locally has subsided in a manner which is downright dangerous for traveling. “Several locals the majority of whom are elderly have practically been cut off due to the dangerous condition of the road which can only be negotiated by either tractors or four wheel drives.” Says Cllr. Shortall. Declining budgets may dictate the time frame of road repair but the loud message from the residents of the Alley Road is WE WANT WORK on it as a matter of urgency. “We cannot sit and watch our road network deteriorate and in some cases disappear, emergency funding is urgently required from the National Coffers” concluded Cllr. Shortall.
