Labour TD for Cork South-West Michael McCarthy has welcomed the news that more than €45 million will be made available to Cork County Council in road allocation grants this year. A further €400,000 will go to Clonakilty and Kinsale Town Councils for road works.
“This is an extremely welcome tranche of funding which covers both substantive capital works and the restoration of roads across West Cork this year. It sees Cork County Council get €36.5 million towards improvement works and a further €8.7 million for maintenance. Clonakilty and Kinsale Town Councils will also receive €195,000 each for smaller maintenance projects.
I am pleased that this much-needed funding has been sanctioned by Minister Leo Varadkar and Minister Alan Kelly who, since coming to office, have both repeatedly demonstrated their commitment to West Cork through the various funding rounds that have been announced by their Department.
This Government is operating within a very restricted financial climate at present, however it is committed to accelerating investment in capital works that are shovel-ready and labour-intensive as part of its national recovery plan for jobs and growth. Today's announcement is a significant demonstration of that promise.”
