O'Brien calls for review of altered city junction
Issued : Friday 23 November, 2007
Councillor Michael O'Brien told Kilkenny County Council that the altered design of the Dublin Road/John Street Junction in the City is a mistake. He said that the new layout which eliminated the left filtering lane into High Street is already clearly showing the need for a review.
"With vehicle queues now regularly stretching back beyond the entrance to McDonagh Station shopping complex, what will it be like when the increased traffic impact of a fully up and running McDonagh Junction' be like?, he said.
Councillor O'Brien said that the new layout further confused motorists who wanted to access Wolf Tone Street because the original centre lane was directly aligned with that street. Lane discipline on the Castlecomer approach to the junction also needs to be better defined to indicate a right turn into Wolf Tone Street. County Council Officials agreed to seek advice on the issue.
