Hansfield Station Must Open
I was very pleased to be invited to the official opening of the new rail spur between Clonsilla and Dunboyne. Labour has consistently pressed for greater investment in rail infrastructure in West Dublin and we welcome the new service.
Interestingly, the invitation from Minister Dempsey mentions the Docklands, Clonsilla, Dunboyne and M3Parkway stations. Conspicuous by its absence is any mention of the Hansfield Station - it has been airbrushed out of history.
The Hansfield station is ideally positioned to serve the people of the Ongar/Castaheany/Littlepace area. It will encourage commuters to make the shift from the car to public transport, but only if it actually opens.
The new station is a fine building, but without trains and road access, it is simply another waste of public money.
