Dear Maura,

Waste Bye-Laws

In response to the invitation to contribute to the public consultation process on waste bye-laws I would like to make the following points.

  • I find it unbelievable that the different Dublin local authorities have put in place their own unique bye-laws which involve different definitions and bin weights; definitions should be the responsibility of the Department of Environment and the Minister.
  • In the drafting of bye-laws which lay down the conditions under which waste is collected, I believe, that if the proper recycling of glass waste is to take place, the habit of some waste collection companies (Panda in my area of Blackrock) to allow the disposal of any colour glass in their green bins should be prohibited under any new bye-laws.
  • In the interest of meeting our recycling targets for packaging waste, the recycling of glass waste should be conducted separately in an eco-friendly way.

Yours sincerely,
Niamh Bhreathnach Cllr.
