Council announces Christmas Parking Promotion

Issued : Saturday 19 November, 2011

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is pleased to announce that at last night’s Council meeting, it was agreed that the Council will operate a holiday Parking Promotion.

The Promotion will provide shoppers and visitors with one hour free parking, 7 days a week, from 15th December 2011 to 15th January 2012 inclusive.

The promotion applies to on-street parking only, in the €2.00 areas in Blackrock, Dún Laoghaire and Dundrum. These retail areas have a 3 hour maximum time limit to encourage turnover in parking spaces.

An Cathaoirleach, Cllr John Bailey, welcomed the announcement, “Not only will this promotion benefit shoppers visiting the retail areas of Blackrock, Dún Laoghaire, and Dundrum, but it is hoped that this will provide a boost in trade for local businesses during the holiday shopping season.”

How will it work?

Motorists will pay for one hour parking, and no enforcement action will be taken until 60 minutes after their ticket expires. In effect, the promotion allows two hours parking for the price of one hour. The same applies if motorists pay for a two hour parking session; no enforcement action will be taken until 60 minutes after the initial ticket expires.
