Circus Field saved at Booterstown
Issued : Monday 12 December, 2011
Welcoming a statement from the Manager Owen Keegan to the Council of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown that plans to proceed with a commuter carpark on the circus field have been scrapped, Cllr. Niamh Bhreathnach thanked her local councillor colleagues and residents for supporting her campaign to oppose the carpark.
“Our circus field lies at the entrance to our County. Adjoining the birdmarsh at Booterstown, this part of the Blackrock Parklands forms a wonderful welcoming vista to our County. Now that the carpark has been shelved, I believe that it is important that the Council proceed now to have included in our Development Plan our intention “to protect the views and vistas of the bay”. This is easily done during the Development Plan process. The maps will be marked accordingly if we are successful. We will then know that for future generations we will have retained this magnificent view.”
The councillors noted the Report brought to the Council by the Manager. They welcomed the development at the railway at Dun Laoghaire sea front and hoped that the community here will benefit from an agreement reached by the Manager and Iarnrod Eireann. But the price for this, a commuter carpark on the circus field, was just too much, an opinion backed by today's legal advice to the Manager.
