Objection to Planning permission for more shops on Newtownpark Avenue

Issued : Thursday 26 January, 2012

D11A 0602

As a local resident and elected councillor,  I wish to raise two particular objections to the granting of a planning permission to file D11A 0602.

1. Having noted the file, I am surprised at the absence of information on who intends to trade on the site, under what chain store name.  The ethos of a proposed owner is important information to local residents when they want to consider how a trading chain will relate to the community, listens to its concerns and join in its plans for the future of Newtownpark.

2. This site abuts Newtownpark Ave. and Newtown Ave, a junction controlled by traffic lights.  The small area for car parking, to the rear of the buildings, exits on to the narrower road; opposite an entrance to a lay-by with limited parking where more local shops trade.  Managing any increase of traffic would have to involve a traffic management plan,

This application for development on a very busy junction in an area already well served by local shops should be refused in the absence of information on ownership and proposed traffic management.
