McGowan issues final election appeal to voters -A No 1 vote for McGowan is a vote for change and renewal

Issued : Monday 1 June, 2009

Labour local election candidate Niamh McGowan is issuing her final election appeal to the voters of south Meath. Ms. McGowan has been campaigning since last December when she decided to put her name forward for election.

Niamh is not a career politician, but considers herself to be an “accidental politician”.  Niamh got involved because of her own difficulties in securing childcare for her two young children and because of her concern for the future of her area. Niamh believes she can be a force for change and renewal.  She thinks it is important that Meath County Council is seen as a positive force working for the people.  The current perception is that the Council is a distant body in Navan that cares little about south Meath. Niamh McGowan has deep roots in the area, having been born and educated in Ratoath and now residing in Ashbourne.

“I have really enjoyed the campaign and the opportunity since December to meet and speak with a few thousand people in Ashbourne, Ratoath, Dunshaughlin, Dunboyne and across south Meath. I didn’t make any empty or pre-election promises, which only alienates and annoys people, but I do promise that I am honest, will work hard and be a committed public representative. I also believe that my financial, business and legal experience would be of benefit on the Council, especially in the current challenging economic environment.  I am humbly asking the people in south Meath for their No 1 vote June 5th so that I can work on bringing the change and renewal to Meath County Council that so many people on the doorsteps tell me they want .” concluded Niamh McGowan
