On Monday 9th January the City Councillors supported a motion by Cllr Oisín Quinn for a free wifi system in public places.
A new Wi-Fi scheme for Dublin that would involve free usage in public parks is to be examined by the city council.
It follows a motion from Labour councillor Oisin Quinn, who said the scheme could be financed by pop-up advertising.
A plan to provide free Wi-Fi across the city was abandoned in 2008 after it was found to be against European Union law on State aid.
But Cllr Quinn said cities such as Bilbao and Paris had found ways of providing it on council property.
City Manager John Tierney said the council already provides the service in its libraries and said a report would be available at the end of the month on ways of expanding it.
