Local Election candidate and Old Cork Road resident Orla McLoughlin welcomes the decision by Limerick City Council to take over the Georgian Village estate.
McLoughlin, who is running for the Labour Party in the Limerick City South Ward, hopes that residents in the 30-year-old estate will finally see long overdue maintenance including traffic calming and an adequate and safe entrance added to their neighbourhood. "Many of the parents I have met during my campaign have told me of their worries for their children playing on this dangerous road each day", states Orla McLoughlin, " We are taking our lives into our own hands each morning getting onto the Old Cork Road and it is essential that the council takes action on this immediately". Up to 70 households on the Old Cork Road are effected by this change, which was voted on by the Council at their monthly meeting this Monday. With immediate effect the City Council has legal responsibility for the repair or replacement of roads, foodpaths, lighting, water and sewerage issues as they occur.
