RE: Amendments to previously approved planning permission ref number SD04A/0182. New reference number SD08A/0501. For the development of 1 & 2 Wellington Cottages and site between 1 Wellington Cottage and 45 Wellington Lane, Dublin 6W
I have been in contact with a number of residents in the Willington lane area who are concerned about the planned development of the above-mentioned site. They have no objection in principle to developing the old Burma garage site and would be delighted to see the area cleaned up.
However, they are concerned that the proposed new structures will not be in keeping with the other building in the area and could result in a devaluing of the house prices in the locality.
The area where these new houses are to be built consists of cottage type dwellings and detached and semi-detached houses with pitched roofs. These two building will be flat roofed and out of line with the design of the building in the surrounding area. This destroys the continuity on the road and could seriously devalue the house prices in the area.
The plan is to build two houses and a retail unit on the site. The houses will be finished in a “self coloured render and hard wood timber cladding” For those unfamiliar with this cladding material they can see examples of it on the Hunters Wood development in Ballycullen and on the apartments opposite the Halfway House on the Drimnagh road.
It is intended to construct a balcony on both houses, one of which will directly overlook the adjacent property and infringe on the resident’s right to privacy.
The residents in the area would also like to know what type of business will be opening in the retail unit before it begins trading but they have been told they are not entitled to this information.
I will be working on behalf of the resident in the coming months to resolve this matter to their satisfaction.
