My Priorities

  • Unemployment - Figures are at an all time high, the number in Ennis alone has Doubled in the last year. With no direction from Government things look bleak. We need to invest even more heavily in training, enhance Community Employment Schemes and ensure that Small & Medium Enterprises get the funding they need to allow them to keep people on board.
  • Neighbourhoods & Upkeep of Estates - Many estates in and around Ennis experience shoddy sublet houses with poorly built garden walls, overgrown with grass and weeds, along with illegal dumping. This is a major health and safety issue and it is essential that landlords who sublet be made responsible for the upkeep of rented houses. Street lighting is also a major concern for residents if people are to feel safe in their own neighbourhoods.
  • Anti-Social Behaviour/Crime - Higher unemployment is likely to be reflected in rising crime levels and anti-social behaviour. Investment is needed in preventative education, health and social measures. There is convincing evidence to show that social investment, particularly where children at risk are concerned, more than pays for itself.
