Cllr. Hamill Welcomes Belated Opening of Waterville Park

Issued : Friday 3 April, 2009

"Much to the relief of local residents, the new park in Waterville, near the grounds of Connolly hospital, has finally opened its gates. Fingal County Council has assigned park attendants to look after and monitor the park so that it can remain in pristine condition.

"The beautifully landscaped park has been lying idle and locked for well over a year now as Fingal County Council was making preparations to take the park in charge. Over the course of the past year on the council I have tabled countless motions to try to speed up this process and, like local residents, I am delighted to see the park gates finally flung open.

"It has been very frustrating for locals to pass the locked park every day over the past year seeing what a beautiful amenity it was but not being able to access it.

"This park is a wonderful addition to Waterville's developing community. There are many families in the area with young children who have been particularly looking forward to the park opening. If the recent good weather holds up, local children can look forward to playing to their hearts content there over the summer months.

"Although it was a long time in coming, I think Waterville Park is a good example of responsible, community centred planning. Many newer parts of Dublin 15 have been left devoid of green space, but I think Waterville now strikes a nice balance between medium density housing, amenities and open recreational space. This community will only go from strength to strength."
